Maker{Futures} celebrates multilingualism, nature and making at the Migration Matters Festival on June 17th 2022

Maker{Futures} has teamed up with Dr Sabine Little's Lost Wor(l)ds project to create a nature inspired makerspace for families to come and explore and share their languages and words associated with nature.

Our mobile makerspace is packed with a range of fun activities for the family. Have a go at tinkering and make your own nature inspired projects. We will be exploring balance, making hanging mobiles, using augmented reality, and woodwork as we celebrate our many languages and the words we use to describe the nature around us.

Migration Matters Festival is the largest Refugee week Festival in the UK - 17th-25th June 2022. It is a pay-what-you-feel arts festival that celebrates the positive impact migration & refugees have had on Sheffield & the UK.

The aim of the ‘Lost Wor(l)ds’ project is to highlight the ways in which primary school children lose their heritage language, within a monolingual English national curriculum.
